On the way

New things I have learnt this week mainly consist of design skills to make my site. I have almost finished it now, the only thing missing is the java validation. The happiest was getting positive feedback for the site however I was happy at feedback in general as it helped me improve my overall performance.

Mistakes
The mistakes I was making was not actually in the technical side of things it was the design aspects of the site such as corresponding sizes. Now I have learnt a lot more about design I no to keep the same sizes and use them repetitively, this creates a better looking affect.

Learnt
I have learnt a lot about design this week and how I should follow the park rules more often. One of which was lacking in my site during the week and that was repetitiveness in the sizes. However I have now learnt from my mistakes and added repetitiveness into my site making it look and feel a lot better.

Another design aspect I have learnt is that I need to make sure the colours I use match and look satisfactory. The way I have done this on my site is by taking inspiration from the colour index which enabled me to make the site look attractive after much deliberation.

Future
In the future I will definitely take more advantage of the books I have purchased, one of my favourites so far is the colour index, however I now that I can not always rely on this and must find my own way of matching colours in a satisfactory way.

PARC this is a rule which I will use a lot more of now I no the full aspects of its nature. Before I did not fully understand how repetitiveness could be good in this situation however it has improved my site a lot making it more pleasing on the eye which in turn makes it easier to read.

Goals for this week.
Check A5.
Check site for errors.
Fully validate the feedback form.
Finish the evaluation.
Put A5 in the folder ready for hand in.

Looks like your flying Martyn. A lot does seem to be learnt in the last week. I noticed your site has come far since I last saw it. Before you had to scroll forever down a page to view each part.

I saw on the screen earlier a new colour addition of grey/silver. This looked very appealing with the banner and name of the site (Silver Surfers).

This week I feel as though I have learnt a lot about the layout, even though I left early on Monday. I re-aligned the entire site to the centre, and made 3 explanations appear on each page, cutting down the size of the website. Also a few additional bars of colour were added to draw out the website.

Keep it up Martyn.

Hi Martyn

I also still have to implement my validation; I enjoy the more 'code' based aspects to web design / development.

Using PARC is a great way to ensure that the fundamentals of your design are right.

With regards the books, they are and always will be a very valuable resource irrespective of what you are doing. If someone has felt a subject important enough and their knowledge extensive enough to write a book about it then perhaps its wise to at least read it.

Your website has defiantly come a long way since I first saw it, and you can see a big improvement in the design and colour choice.

I can tell you really like the color index book as you’ve had it open and right next to you since you first got it. As Shaun said books are a very useful and are worth investing in.

Every time I see your web site I see improvements, you can tell that you have used your feedback from the people in the class to improve your website. This will be good to mention in your evaluation. It would be good if you could put a link on your blog so we could see how your web site as progressed.

I know exactly what you mean about keeping consistency with sizes. Even though the design of each of my pages did have consistency I decided to work from two templates; one for the content and the other for the home page and feedback form.

This has created a complete nightmare when just slight changes to each template end up moving parts of the page I don't want them too! Creating differences between pages made from different templates.

I have learnt my lesson stick to one template and keep it simple!

Hi All

I agrea the colour index as helped me a lot however i must learn not to rely too much on other things and try to learn how to do it for my self.

I am the same as shaun i did the site basic mainly because i was affraid to do anything out of the aldenary incase i struggled really bad and then couldn't fix it.

Thanks, Martyn

The new site was definitely looking a lot like a major improvement on the original from what I saw on Tuesday.

I would advise that if you want any last minute feedback that you should upload it and post it on your blog as I think it is important the site is finished before Monday.

The ColorIndex book you have looked really good. They are a great way of learning and a lot more accurate than the usual wikipedia search.
